I bought too much stuff at the craft market.  How can I get it home?

There are shipping companies on just about every corner in Otavalo to help you with commercial and non-commercial shipments.  That can cost one $5-$15 a lb. to ship non commercial shipments.  The airlines allow each person 22 kilos (about 50 lbs.).  That's a pretty fair amount of stuff so if you can hoof it back it is probably the best.

I do not speak Spanish.  Will I be able to get around while I am in Otavalo?

The Otavalo Indigenous people are friendly and helpful.  Many speak a little English.  With a little patience and a few hand gestures you'll have no problem traveling.  By the way, there are some excellent Spanish schools located in Otavalo.

Is it easy to use a credit card in Otavalo?

Yes, several businesses accept credit cards though processing fees may be expensive.   However, you'll need cash to shop.  Look for ATMs in Otavalo at the Banco Austro, Banco de Pacifico and the Banco de Pichincha.  It is recommended that you also bring Travelers Checks (banks and hotels charge 2-10% to accept TCs).  Money change houses and Banks are located near the Poncho Plaza and stay open seven days a week.  At Ali Shungu we will charge you 2% to pay with travelers checks and 5% to use a credit card for prepayment only.

Can we use dollars in the craft villages and at the craft market?

Yes, all of Ecuador is using the US dollar now.  Try to bring smaller bills to use.  Often the merchants have a difficult time obtaining change.  As well, old torn and worn out bills are not accepted, even by banks.

Does the price of our room include free breakfast?

No.  Like most of the cheaper hotels we could include a "continental" breakfast of cheap, lardy bread and watered down nescafe.  But we have a huge gourmet breakfast selection which fits any type of appetite.  You can choose a simple muffin, yogurt, a waffle w/ fruit and crème OR a full course breakfast!  It's nice to have the choice!
