Welcome to the Ali Shungu MOUNTAINTOP LODGE, Otavalo, Ecuador |
PLAZA DE PONCHOS-SHOPPING The center of Otavalo and only a few miles from the Lodge. Absolutely the best shopping in the country! There is a handicraft market each day but Saturday is the big day. Artisans from all regions of the country offer their crafts. Beware of the slick pickpockets! |

ANIMAL & LIVESTOCK MARKET Saturday only. Located on the panamerican highway on the west side of town. Get there early as the best deals happen between 6:00 and 8:00am. |
FOOD AND PRODUCE MARKET At the top of Calle Jaramillo. Plenty of local color every day, but especially on Saturday. The old timers come in from the hills for their weekly chores. A must see! See a Video |
PEGUCHE WATERFALLS About a one hour walk from the center of town. Find the railroad tracks east of town, head north following the tracks and the cobblestone road until they separate. Continue on the road up the hill and to the right into the park. Acres and acres of an eighty year old forest and lovely waterfalls. |

JOSÉ COTACACHI Master tapestry weaver and designer. See his two galleries in the main square of Peguche just to the right of the church. Visitors are always welcome! |
MIGUEL ANDRANGO Ecuador's most famous weaver. His workshop and store are just outside of Agato. Go see his backstrap loom demonstrations. See a Video |
EL LECHERO A beautiful panoramic view of Otavalo and Lago San Pablo. Walk a block above the main square (Calle Piedrahita) and head east up the road bearing left. From barrio Santa Anita continue up staying to the left. From the "wailing tree" walk down to the villages on the lake. Take a bus back to Otavalo. |

You'll want to spend at least a few days to see all that the Otavalo area has to offer! |
