AT&T 999-119 MCI 999-170 Sprint 999-171 For an operator in Canada, dial 999-175 (Teleglobe). 999-119 (AT&T USA Direct) will allow you to make collect calls. To make long distance calls from a private home, the Ecuadorian operator may be accessed by dialing 116. She will take the information and call you back with your call. You may also ask her the charges. Also long distance calls may be made from Ecuador's phone company--EMETEL. There is one located in every town and many in the larger cities. They also provide international telex and telegram services and are open from 8 am to 10 pm on a daily basis. The country code for Ecuador is 593. But don't bother to use EMETEL, digital phone service centers are everywhere and cheap! To call a number in Ecuador from abroad, call the international access code, (011 from North America), the country code (593), the area code without the 0 (2,3,4,5,6, or 7, depending on the area), and lastly, the 6-digit local telephone number. For example, to Call Hotel Ali Shungu from the U.S., you would dial: 011-593-6-920750. Internet cafes are springing up everywhere (!) and are easy and inexpensive to use. Many internet connections go through the big cities, so expect to pay a bit more from internet connections in smaller towns. |
